So, Boston Marathon today, meaning Wellesley Scream Tunnel! It was really a lot of fun. Here's
some general info about it. Basically, the whole college lines up on one side of the road to cheer on the runners, and it's a tradition to try to kiss them and scream at them. I saw a photo from last year where one girl had a sign saying "Finally, some men at Wellesley!"
Anyway, it was really entertaining. The first runners going through basically ignored us, but they were the really, really, really fast ones, so yeah... I guess if you've already run half a marathon in 30-45 minutes, a bunch of screaming college students aren't going to distract you. Then a very very intimidated group of soldiers/marines/no idea what they were but they were in army uniforms, and a few others (half of whom looked jubuliant at being treated like rock stars, and the other half looked terrified for their lives) ran by. It would seem that finding yourself in the middle of 2400 screaming Wellesley students is a bit intimidating.
A bunch of different runners took photos with me and my group, and blew us kisses. Our main goal was to see how many we could get to slap us five. A few were had their cell phones out so whoever they were talking to could hear all the screaming. A group of students right next to us had a giant "Kiss Me!!" sign, which seemed like fun until this really weird old guy with a beard decided to take it very literally. The girl holding it jumped back nearly a yard. And that was Marathon Monday!
